On 9th June 2003, Darius released Girl in the Moon, the fourth and final single from his platinum-selling debut album Dive In. Today, 22 years later, we look back on a song that quietly captured hearts and remains one of his most cherished creations.
Darius often spoke about Girl In The Moon being his personal favourite track from Dive In, and it’s not hard to see why. Co-written with Pete Glenister and Deni Lew, the song blends gentle melodies, poetic lyricism and a hint of Beatles-inspired musical structure, all hallmarks of Darius’s thoughtful approach to songwriting.
At a time when mainstream pop often leaned toward the loud and fast, Girl In The Moon offered something different: real emotion. It was reflective, romantic, and deeply sincere all qualities that defined much of Darius’ work and continued to endear him to fans around the world.
The single was released in multiple formats, with something special for longtime fans and new listeners alike. Alongside the main track were live recordings from the Dive In tour earlier that year, including Sliding Doors, Gotta Know Tonight, and a lively Bootylicious / Faith medley. These B-sides gave a glimpse of Darius’ unmistakable stage charisma and versatility, offering listeners the energy and joy of his live performances.
Also included was a short interview with Darius himself, sharing insights into his creative process and personality another example of how closely he liked to stay connected to the people who supported him.
Girl In The Moon became a song that fans turned to in quiet moments, a track that offered comfort, calm, and a connection to something bigger.
22 years on, Girl In The Moon still glows with quiet brilliance. It reflects the kind of artist Darius was, honest, original, deeply creative, and unafraid to wear his heart on his sleeve.
So tonight, when the moon is out, take a moment to play the track and listen. It’s still full of magic.
🌕 Happy Anniversary, Girl in the Moon. You’re still lighting the way.
