Darius Danesh heads home to give us a guided tour of Glasgow...

Dishy Darius is literally jumping up and down with pride at the thought of showing TV Hits readers around his old home.

"I was born and bred in Glasgow and for me, it's the heart and soul of Scotland,"he gushes. "I really miss my family though as they still live there - so I try to visit as much as I can. It's the perfect place to go shopping and it has a fab music scene too. It was voted City Of Culture in 1990!"

But hang on, matey - where were your high school hang-outs? And what secret shenanigans did you get up to there?

Lead on Mr Danesh...

School Days

"I went to Bearsden Middle School in Bearsden Cross from the age of five. And that's when I first got interested in music. I learned to play the recorder and the piano. I went through a tough time when I was bullied at school. I was a very sensitive boy who wasn't afraid to show his emotions - I guess they saw that as a weakness, I had a really awkward time after that and lost my confidence. But it was a great learning experience - cos I soon learned to bounce back!"

Growing Up

"I went to The Glasgow Academy to take my GCSEs. I worked very hard but still managed to find time to play too.

In fact we did a production of Oliver! and I played the part of Fagin. But the girl who was Nancy, who I fancied, poured a jug of ice-cold water down my back just before we went on - and it soaked my T-Shirt and pants! I had to go on commando and it wasn't until half way through the production I realised my flies were undone and everyone could see. Ha ha!

It was actually my cool music teacher, Mr Ritchie, who helped me most while I was here. He said I had real talent and I ended up getting an A in it."

First Date

"I first took a girl to the Glasgow Renfield Odeon when I was 13 years old. In fact it was so long ago, I don't remember what film it was. Oh, yes I do - it was 'Ghost' with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore - and I cried buckets! I have loads of great memories from this cinema actually - I also had my first kiss there a few years later."

Uni-tastic

"I went to study English Literature at Edinburgh University - and I loved it! I met two friends who are still my best mates now.

I decided to study English as it'd give me something under my belt - and it helped me write lyrics. To earn some extra cash I also had a part-time job as a waiter, at an Italian restaurant - but it's been knocked down. Nothing to do with me, I hope!"

Popstars Mania

"I remember The Scottish Television Centre very well because it was where we had the auditions for Popstars! I went along almost as a joke, because my mate Johnny was encouraging me to go for it.

I was very happy to experience it though but I didn't realise the TV show would become such a huge hit. It didn't feel like a big deal at the time because there was just a couple of cameras in the room. It wasn't like Pop Idol, which was really scary.."

Our Idol

"The Pop Idol auditions were held somewhere else - The Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre. And I can tell you I was petrified!

As soon as I walked in the building I felt everyone looking at me. Some girls came to ask for my autograph but I couldn't write my name because my hand was shaking so much! All I was focused on was getting through the audition."

Hanging Around

"My mates and I always used to play footie in the park after school and at the weekends. There was one we were always hanging around called Victoria Park.

We also went to the youth club which was in our school hall and The Italian Centre - a collection of designer shops in Glasgow. They do lovely stuff but I could never afford it - I used to peer in the windows. I'd love to go back there now with a huge shopping list!"
