On this day in 2002 Darius was celebrating the eve of his 22nd birthday on stage at a huge show in Dublin. Still at No.1 in the charts with 'Colourblind' Darius was presented with a birthday cake by Irish 'Popstars' winners 'Six' and the crowd serenaded him with a rendition of 'Happy Birthday'.
Talking about the event in his 2003 book, Sink Or Swim, Darius said:
"Another high point was performing at the 02 music festival in Ireland in August. As I went on stage, the presenter announced that it was my birthday and a cake was brought on. Suddenly 100,000 people broke into "Happy Birthday'. The noise was deafening. A tear crept to the corner of my eye but I wiped it away before anyone could see."
Now magazine also reported saying:
The Irish audience couldn't get enough of Darius Danesh when he performed at O2 In The Park. He drove the crowd wild at Ireland's biggest-ever free gig by drenching himself with water before performing his debut smash hit Colourblind.
Darius, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, excitedly told Party Animal backstage: 'It's my first time performing in Ireland and the crowd have been absolutely great. The highlight for me was definitely thousands of fans singing Happy Birthday to me. But the jet-setting star wasn't on Irish soil for long. 'I'm flying back to Glasgow tonight to celebrate with my family and friends, then I'm off to Los Angeles to finish working on my debut album, he said.
