It's 20 years ago this week since Darius was presented with the UK Best Newcomer Award at Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Tartan Clef Awards. (pictured below)
The Sunday Mail reported that he was 'the star attraction at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel - signing autographs and dancing the night away.'
Upon receiving his award Darius told the audience: "I'm delighted with this award. I'm very lucky to be able to do my hobby and get paid for it."
Darius did a lot of work for the music therapy charity and had joined a lesson by Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy teachers at Daldorch School in Ayrshire in October 2002.
Talking to the Daily Mirror at the time Darius said: "One boy called Ian could not speak, but his reaction to music was incredible. I have had 100,000 people singing lyrics back to me. But that was nothing like this."
He also attended The Music Industry Trust Dinner in aid of Nordoff-Robbins in London where he was honoured with an award along with Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin, photos from which can been seen in this post.
